David Mamet, writer, screenwriter and producer has, thank goodness. But his conversion, his awakening and deliverance from his blind following of political correct dogma is effectively ignored. I imagine that there is nothing more brutal to bestow on an artist who is accustomed to acclaim and adulation than for his humanity and artistic expression to be shunned by one's peers...It must be as if being imprisoned, as if being dismissed as having gone insane, looney.
All the same, I challege you to read his declaration, Why I am no longer a brain dead liberal, by David Mamet, in the Villiage Voice http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0811,374064,374064,1.html/full
Daniel Henninger of the WSJ's op-ed account regarding Mr. Mamet's declaration of transformation is witty and a call to intellectual self accountability. http://online.wsj.com/article/wonder_land.htmlwonder_land
At my age, I don't expect the seas to part with Mr. Mamet's conversion and declaration. I am happy for Mr. Mamet, for he is free from the anguish of knowing his former paradigm has been a lie, and he an enabler, and I admire his courage to heed his conscience which was more than he could bear to stifle. He chose instead to be honest and declare his realization, no doubt, in hopes that others might follow. I hope he has a strong constitution, and that there are enough bright and talented nobel men and women around him, in his life, who will satisfy his need for camaraderie and kindred spirit, inspiration and expression, so vital to an artist who creates with his passion.
I hope that he will find avenues for us, his public, to see his works that spring forth from his newly declared perspectives.
