Local Latino Union Hack/Santa Cruz City Councilman is a parody of political correctness and racial identity politics
I'm bemused with Tony Madrigal's adeptness at garnering front page news coverage three times in one year. The past two times have been this month, concerning his racial profiling remarks, and earlier this year, for his lewd comments about women, while on a "ride-a-long" with police...
Tony's allegations of racial profiling in this case fly in the face of some very simple facts: In 2005, there were 7 stabbings "downtown"--which consists of basically two blocks, on Holloween night, a night Mayor Reilly declares to be "a national holiday for Santa Cruz"--scary but true.
Last year, with beefed up security which Madrigal voted against, this year, on account of alleged racial profiling, there were 2 stabbings.

It seems clear that the Liberal Left defends freedom of speech ONLY if you're throwing your aspersions at the Right.
Their old 60's mantra of "Question Authority" does not apply to them... Try to question them, and you'll get zapped just like Andrew Meyer.
Check out Paul Criaig Roberts' post of some video clips and commentary about Andrew Meyer, the 21 year old journalism student who got tasered for annoying Senator Kerry during a speech at University of Florida. Kerry, I see, not only posed as a valiant and decorated Vietnam Vet when it suited him, but he apparently is also a poser, as a defender of civil rights. As a student activist, he used our protected freedom of speech to protest the Vietnam War. But for Meyer, he stood by and let this student activist get tasered and then removed. Watch the videos here.
We don't zap and arrest Code Pink gals who somehow sneak into congressional hearings without a pass, and who offend with their courseness and distasteful apprearances.
I'm appauled by anyone on the Left or Right who defends the use of force in this case, with the argument that students shouldn't be disrespectful or disruptive. It's a tyrannical government concept that the ends justify the means. They do not!
And don't buy the spin that Meyer is a class clown, a prankster, a joker, and that he planned this event for personal attention, to justify and trivialize this shocking display of police abuse of power. Apologists rationalize that Meyer had his friends film him. A lot of people use U-Tube to post their protests. And? So he wanted to show Kerry up for not being Left enough! So? And as for being a jokester, so he's got a sense of humor and a bent for entertaining his co-horts and fellow students, regardless, freedom of speech is a basic and fundamental civil right --no matter who you are...whether your party icon is a jackass or an elephant...
I've seen countless examples of students protesting Right leaning or Libertarian speakers, where the speaker is labeled as an extremist right winger, where the speaker is shouted down into silence... But the day it becomes acceptable for people on the Right to defend police abuse of power because they get a sense of retribution against the Left, whoa there sisters and brothers, we've lost our way...We can do better...

Statists want to bring back the Fairness Doctrine and muzzle talk radio--They can't stop listeners from having a paradigm shift of perspectives and opinions, and realizing they are freedom lovers, so now they are hell bent on muzzling talkers!
Legislation is being sponsored in Congress by Senator Ernest Hollings, a South Carolina Democrat, and in the House (H.R. 1985) by Bill Hefner, the North Carolina Democrat.
It isn't just Dems who threaten free speech of talk radio. Senator Republican Whip Lott supported reviving a killed immigration bill and decried that talk radio was running American and that "We have to deal with that problem."

Adam Thierer writes, "the fairness doctrine was overturned by the FCC in 1987. The FCC discarded the rule because, contrary to its purpose, it failed to encourage the discussion of more controversial issues. Friday, May 11, 2007, : Gale Kaufman issues a press release response to US Term Limits' Lawsuit against Attorney General Brown, for misleading ballot title and summary of the initiative to weaken term limits. Gale's smarmy remark is a mockery of the public trust.
Kaufman says "The litigation is merit less. The Attorney General is given broad discretion in what to include or not include in writing a title and summary."
"US Term Limits can't expect to have a title and summary that reflect their campaign literature."
Yet in the following comparison of the official title and summary and the proponents' literature, you can see just how brazenly the Attorney General did in fact use the proponents' campaign literature to write the official ballot Title and Summary for Prop .
General Rule:
IP Reduces the total time a member can serve in the California Legislature from
14 to 12 years . . . .
AG Reduces the total amount of time a person may serve in the state legislature
from 14 years to 12 years.
Special Exception for Incumbents:

From cell phones to cigarettes, it's a scandal how many laws on the state Legislature's list for 2007 would tell you how to live your life. It will take more than a spoonful of sugar to make these intrusions palatable.
There's this:
The Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
And there's this:
The Declaration of Dependence: "We hold these truths to be generally agreed upon, that all men are regarded not exactly equal (some being more in need than others), that they are permitted by their Government to exercise some rights, but, more importantly, are required by their Government to conform to certain behaviors to achieve freedom from Want, freedom from Responsibility and freedom from Unhappiness."
Our assumptions dictate our conclusions. If we assume people's rights come from government, we logically can conclude it's OK for government to decide everything people must and must not do.Â
But if we assume people's rights are unalienable and God-given (as the Declaration of Independence says), we end up with a far different conclusion. Friday, March 9, 07: These past few days the papers around the state seem to have been influenced by some notice or could it be a harmonic convergence? There are three articles in three papers talking about the Nanny Government, Babysitters, Micro-managers!!! It's not just women legislators either. The dim bulb who wants to take away the only indoor light that is kind to a mature lady is a man! So too, the busybody who wants to rid the world of mutts; I know a lot of people who really love their mutts, and I know a lot of people who are mutts too, and they're A-OK!

I paid a special visit Thursday, Feb. 1st, to the Morning Drive on 1460 AM KION, because lawmakers in Sacramento were scheduled to vote on Friday, on a bill that would ban parents from spanking their child under four years of age. I'll join Mark to talk about the feline mistress, Assemblywoman Lieber, who thinks being a cat owner makes her the supreme authority on raising all of our children and her proposed bill which would in effect put a cop in every living room.

I worked on Prop 90 last year, to stop the abuse of eminent domain for commercial and private development, and to protect us from regulatory takings where a politician devalues our property by down-zoning it.
The battle was close and we know going in, that we'll be out spent at least 3 to 1. We'll be back and I hope you'll join us... We're a merry band of defenders of our Bill of Rights! If you've got passion for that, hey, here we (we includes you) are!

Tomorrow, indeed, this long holiday weekend, we honor the courage and sacrifice of the men (and the women who encouraged them) who said "no mas" to the British Monarchy and chose liberty or death-- Fire crackers and fire works don't do justice to capturing their display of grandeur, but it's a fitting token of honor and celebration.

What Happened in CA?
Back then, the possibility of rebellion was born against the seige of public employee unions and their wholly owned politicians who pressed Californians against the wall and said "Stick -em up! You're money or your safety and mobility?"
What a thrill it was to fight back and win the initial part of the battle with the help and star power of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Special Election of November 8th was the second major installment of that rebellion, but the message was not clear and the results bare witness.
